Andrew Ddembe reflects on a continent-wide push for equitable healthcare.
Post Covid, we must reimagine and rebuild health systems so every household attains health equity. My vision is to realise that future across Africa and the global South through MobiKlinic.
I founded MobiKlinic in 2018 because communities in Buikwe, Eastern Uganda, and beyond needed dependable, dignified access to care and vaccines.
Today, our work spans Uganda and western Kenya, demonstrating that digital tools can unlock equitable health delivery anywhere frontline workers are empowered to use them.
As a health equity advocate and lawyer, I serve on the WHO Civil Society and Youth Commission and have collaborated with the African Union and European Union youth cooperation hub to advance digital health policy.
These platforms allow us to amplify the voices of community health workers, ensuring digital transformation is built with and for them.
MobiKlinic continues to grow by nurturing district-level partnerships, co-creating tools with health ministries, and investing deeply in community health workers’ training and digital empowerment.
Our ambition is clear: scale across Africa so every grassroots community experiences a healthcare system that is responsive, affordable, and powered by data.
Receiving the Global Citizen Award is an honour for our entire team. It affirms that equitable healthcare is achievable when we centre communities and technology together.
